5 to Know Friday: July 4th Edition

If mosquito bites from fireworks viewing is not your thing this weekend, there are plenty of other events going on this 4th of July weekend:

Morven Musem & Gardens is the site of a July 4th Jubilee in 1783 when the Princeton was the temporary capital of the nation. Bring the family by the old governor’s mansion to sign a copy of the Declaration and for more colonial life fun! Noon-3pm, FREE.

The Palmer Square Summer Music Series kicks off tomorrow, July 3rd. Between 2 and 4pm, groove back to the 60s with rock tunes from the Carnaby Street Band.  Would definitely be a good opportunity dine in the Tap Room outdoor patio as well!

Ice cream sodas, cones and sundaes, oh my! The Howell Living History Farm is hosting an ice cream party on July 3 from 10-4pm and actually involves MAKING ice cream! Enjoy wagon rides, games and more with the family.

I don’t know about yours, but my dad would LOVE the Revolutionary War demos at the Princeton Battlefield this weekend.  But there’s also games and activities for kids too.  BYO-Lunch and enjoy the vast open field. July 4th, 11am-3pm

Drive a little farther south into Hamilton for a July 4th BBQ at Grounds for Sculpture. Enjoy burgers and dogs under the gazeebo or make reservations at Rats for a wider spread. You can leave without exploring the latest exhibitions and life-like sculptures on the grounds.

5 to know Friday: Rider Tent Sale, Thunder Networking Night, Knit Day

Rider Furniture in Kingston is having a tent sale this weekend an according to FurnitureBrains.com, a tent sale is a good opportunity to use your negotiation skills.  They’re also having a storewide sale for the entire month of June.

The Trenton Thunder is hosting a Night of Networking on June 17th prior too the game against the Altoona Curve. The $25 event will feature a buffet starting at 5:30 and three 15-minute business lectures including a social networking presentation co-led by yours truly! I will be speaking with Lynette Young of Purple Stripe Productions. Register now!

Do you knit? Do you crochet? Do you want to learn? This Saturday June 12th from 11am-4pm, the Princeton Library is just one host of Worldwide Knit Day in Public. Join other enthusiasts in the courtyard (weather permitting) or take the fun inside.

5 to Know Friday: Fruity Yogurt, Amigo Taxi, Art All Night

Have you been to Fruity Yogurt yet? It’s not just another fro-yo shop. You can get bubble tea, REAL fruit smoothies and something called shaved ice-kind of like a snow cone, but with unlimited toppings. Yum! It’s over by CVS on the north end of Nassau Street. With all this hot weather, it’s definitely worth a trip.

It’s hard to miss the Amigo Taxi car driving around town. Did you know it’s an eco-friendly taxi service (low emissions) and the best part-you don’t have to pay for pick-up service. SAVE’s 2nd annual yard sale & flea market is this Saturday, June 5th from 9am-1pm. Last year they raised over $1,700 for the shelter and hopes to top the amount this year. SAVE is a 501 (c)(3) organization “dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of companion animals in the Greater Princeton area.”

Calling all artists! The Trenton ART ALL NIGHT event is coming soon on June 19th and 20th. This 24-hour art and entertainment event is open to artists of all ages and skill level and will feature live music, interactive art, art lectures, kid activities and food.

The 2010 season of the Princeton Summer Theater will open June 17th with The Heidi Chronicles. The community theater, housed in the University’s historic Hamilton Murray Theater, features 4 mainstage shows and 2 children shows each summer.
